Okay people so let me just tell you that college is AMAZING. I made friendships that will last me a lifetime in a short 9 months. My besties have already had a huge impact on my life and my relationship with Jesus and I have learned to pursue my faith and keep swimming upstream. I really never knew how much I would love college. I mean I knew I would like it, but I like my comfortable bubble too. But let me tell you, it was an incredibly new, challenging adventure that I am so blessed to be able to experience.
But what I am trying to process right now is how I am going to make it through summer without seeing my fabulous new people everyday?! I mean we went a whole year living together, traveling together, and everything in between. Crying together (rarely), laughing together (every second) and growing together through devos and lots of good conversations…And now I have to somehow make it through 3 months without them? Yeah, we could FaceTime but we all know its different. So that sounds a little crazy. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I have been looking forward to summer since Christmas break ended…but now that we’re here, I am missing that dingy dorm room and my obnoxious neighbors already!
HOWEVER, this short break just makes the excitement of August that much GREATER. So I thought I would give y’all 5 reasons why August is going to ROCK.
- VOLLEYBALL: Pre-season is exhausting, but it’s also AWESOME. I get to play the sport I love all day long, and see how my hard work over the summer has paid off. Volleyball is a hard job, but a rewarding one, and seeing a team come together and visualizing the future possibilities is one of those satisfying moments.
- MEGA REUNION: I get to be reunited with all my amigas!! I’ve been home for 5 days and am already thinking about the screams that will accompany the big smiles after a long summer apart. If they think I was a hugger before, just wait until I haven’t seen them in three months. #BRACEYOURSELF
- NEW PLACE TO CRASH: Muh peeps got an apartment that I will be bombarding occasionally. It might be a little snug but they don’t appreciate personal space anyways.
- STORIES: Because we’ve been apart for such an extended period, there will be MANY stories and lots of catching up to do. What is more fun than late night talks with your girl friends? Grab the popcorn and lets hear the details.
- REDECORATING: Roomie and I are already talking about rearranging the crib. We’ve discovered that our new room may not be the cutesy room we had this year, but it’ll be twice as fun so who cares?! We’re ready for round 2 in Room 430!!!
HOWEVER, despite all of these super exciting things coming: One thing I have learned is that the grass is always greener on the other side. So although I miss my friends and my little home in Siloam Springs, I also want to recognize how AWESOME it is to be home in Texas. So here are…
5 reasons why I am CONTENT in FRISCO (Or Celina, I guess).
- PARENTALS: I miss them when I’m in school, so now I get to come home and see them every day! (when you’re in college, you learn its okay to miss and love your family). And I know they missed me too, and it makes me happy to make others happy, so I guess we’ll manage.
- PUPPIES: My dogs are the best around town, so chilling with them is always a plus.
- HIGH SCHOOL HOMIES: Yo high school friends, I haven’t forgotten about you and I can’t wait to catch up and hear all of your college stories!!! #bonfire? So pumped for all of you to get back in town. And seniors, I’ll definitely be at your graduation!!
- FREE FOOD: Open access to a pantry is all a college athlete could ask for right? 100% right and I am pretty excited about it. (Side note: in college, you actually learn that food is kind of expensive and begin to understand why your mom got so mad when the whole box of cheez-its was gone an hour after the grocery store trip)
- WORK: Yeah, I wouldn’t say I am actually excited about the working part. But I am excited about the making money part and being able to pay for stuff (My bank account is at an all time low, another essential part of the college experience)
But anyways, basically I am here to say my first year of college was pretty amazing and I am super excited to continue next year. My new friends are pretty fab too and I can’t wait to see them again. But I also just realized that WOW this year flew even faster than high school did, so even though I miss all my people, I think I am going to enjoy the time I have this summer, because life is moving way faster than I am ready for it…
If you’ve read this far you’re the real MVP. Welcome to the thoughts of Megan on a Monday afternoon in SUMMER.
-yours truly
