So I haven’t posted on this in months, and my biggest brother’s birthday is today!!! (He’s feelin 22) and so I thought for his birthday, I would take the time to brag on him, along with my littler big brother, because I love them and miss them so much.
So get ready to feel appreciated guys! But stay humble…
If you’ve never had a big brother, whew you’re missing out! On good things and bad… (I gotta be honest!) Growing up with brothers is quite the experience. I have two older brothers and let me tell you, they drive me completely CRAZY. They annoy me and don’t seem to flinch. They chase me around the house laughing while I scream. They eat everything.
Literally, everything.
And yet, I could not be more thankful for them.
And I want to share with everyone why my big brothers are two big blessings!
- To start, my brothers are hilarious! I just love spending time with them. Whether we’re having a 3-way phone call from our distant colleges, or we’re at home watching a movie together, they keep life interesting, to say the least and they can make me laugh like no one else.
- They are both driven. When they have a goal or vision, they attack it whole heartedly and encourage me to do the same. They push me to take chances and to trust God in the process. When I was thinking about pursuing college volleyball, they told me to go for it! And their support has definitely helped me get where I’m at.
- They are Christ-centered. This point is something that has become more and more evident to me as we have grown up. Both of my brothers pursue their relationship with Christ above everything. They pray for wisdom, for their dating relationships and everything in between. They walk along Jesus and let Him direct their steps and I crave that same kind of walk with the Lord. (What an impact to have on someone!!)
- They are wise. When we were growing up, my dad always encouraged us to read Proverbs, one a day for a month. (Side note: Proverbs is filled with life tips and words of wisdom, check it out!) but I think my brothers probably listened to my dad because the wisdom they pour into me is amazing!! I see how they work through every decision, seek advice and pray through problems. They place their trust in God and ask him for discernment they way we all should, but often forget.
- My brothers are examples to me. Now sometimes, I’m not gunna lie, their example is of what NOT to do…..but most of the time I learn how to handle situations by watching them: whether its in relationships, school work, friendships, sports, or whatever life throws at us. They seem to know it all (even though they DON’T and I don’t hesitate to tell them that when they need a little reminder 🙂 ) But seriously, they give the best advice and are (almost) always willing to talk things out with me (even if I do “ask a lot of questions”) and I am super thankful for that.
- My brothers are protective. This speaks for itself. But ugh, it’s one of those things that you hate but love at the same time. Sometimes I just want them to give me my space!! Why do you care who I date or who I’m friends with anyways?? But then I recognize that their perspective is out of love. They want the best for me and because I know their hearts, their love for the Lord, and their wisdom, I wouldn’t want them to do anything less.
- My brothers are uplifting! They can put a smile on my face any day of the week. They encourage me and love me in my flaws. They are joyful and just fun to be around.
As you can tell, I love y’all so much!! Yeah you have your moments and are super frustrating at times, but the bond we share makes it all worth it!!
If you’re not Adam or Evan and you’re still reading this, let me just say: Family is SUPER important. Stay in touch, call them, appreciate them, love them. You never know when you’ll need them, or when they’ll need you.
Big brothers are my BIG blessing. Adam and Evan, I am so thankful for you both! I miss my annoying cotton headed ninny muggins.
Thanksgiving can’t come fast enough.
Happy Birthday Adam.
